Rules of the Road (Demo)

Drive around the big city in order to complete various jobs in a hurry, but if you break the rules of the road it will cost you your time.

In the Rules Of The Road demo you will drive around in search of the big cartoon box which is located somewhere in the city. You have 5 minutes to reach the box so you will need to balance speeding through the streets and following the driving laws (stopping for 3+ seconds at stop signs and not driving on sidewalks). Have fun!  

Post Demo Reflection:

The demo I created is representative of the core game loop I wanted as I was able to create an environment where you drive around, following the driving laws. Overall, the demo is not really fun because the implemented laws (and the behavior if your break them) inhibit the player from doing anything that could bring thrill (speeding around the map). If I could change the demo I would make it so there is a three-strike system where you are able to break three driving laws before getting sent back to the start of the map. Having this system would allow the main game loop to still exist in the demo while giving the player the opportunity to have some fun. If I were to keep working on this project I would implement more driving laws like stop lights, speed limits, cross walks, create a better system for balancing breaking laws and following them (can't break laws where cops are nearby), and I would tune-up the driving mechanics to make it more arcade to allow for drifting. 

CONTROLS:

• W (hold) = Accelerate
• S (hold) = Accelerate Backwards 
•  A & D = Steer Left & Steer Right 
•  Space = Handbrake 
•  R = Reset position to beginning 
•  Q = Quit game

• Drive -> Do Jobs
• Follow Driving Laws -> Don’t get punished 
• Complete basic jobs -> unlock advanced jobs -> get bigger rewards
